Yes, I envy having the chance to go to concerts with big-ish artists. That would have been the big plus for me about living in Oslo.
But I will never move there. I visited Bergen last week, so much more charming place than Oslo.

I also constantly think about the risk of Russian aggression or drone strikes in your neck of the woods in Ukraine, and crossing my fingers that you’re not affected too much (I know the main targets are elsewhere in the country, but still).
Apparently I can’t change my ID in this God forsaken state. I wasn’t ready to do it yet anyway, but nice to know I won’t be able to when I am. With the way things are going, I may need to move soon. Then again, with the way things are going, I may not have anywhere to move to.
That’s crazy. Is that a new policy under the Tangerine Twat, or has it always been that way in the US?

ID changes are state based, not federal, but the Trump Effect has emboldened asshats like my state’s attorney general to make policies targeting trans people. There’s even reports of him reversing previous marker changes. I am very aware of how much better this all is in Western Europe, or Canada, but to paraphrase Napoleon Dynamite, countries only want people who have great skills. I’m just a regular gal, with two kids, and not a lot to offer, nor money to make a move that big. I have family who would probably help if it was literally life or death. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. I do live adjacent to the bluest state in the midwest, which is probably where I end up, if it comes to it. But their ultimate goal is to make being trans illegal everywhere. For me, there’s a lot riding on November (as there is for everyone).

We’re probably a little late over here compared to Scandinavia but here is as well (although there is a certain party that gladly has no say yet that would like it otherwise…). Hopefully it does not stay an Orange Country forever…
Going back to P32’s comment above. Did I read that right? People are being forcibly abducted off the streets and conscripted to fight in the war (against Russia)?? 😨

Of course we are all fed what the powers that be want us to see/hear.
Stay well.Over here it is theoretically very well possible that you could be forced for conscription by police if in war times. You can of course do conscientious objection here but then you could be forced for other more civil services. But abductions on the street is something entirely different… All in all a very bad situation on all accounts in your country, Ruslan.

As you correctly pointed out, some people are unable to perform military service. That is precisely why citizens have a constitutional right to alternative service. But right now, the government is simply denying this right.
As I recently learned, there have been some positive developments on this issue. In the near future, many people may have the opportunity to substitute military service with civilian (alternative) service. I hope this will happen…@Sophie, I get your irony…

Glad to hear that there is at least such a right in theory, even if handled not properly right now. I cross my fingers that this all comes to an end in the near future and does not get even worse… Hope dies last…

On a related note, there have been reports in Norwegian newspapers lately about gay soccer fans afraid to travel to the U.S. for the World Cup, out of fear for their own security. I’m not sure if this is an overreaction or not, but it says something about the state of things when such doubt even creeps in.

Not something in MY life to vent about this time, but I just read on the news that there was a massive fire across several apartments last Saturday, very near to where Nils lives. I know you were not affected, Nils, but that must have been pretty scary stuff…?
Yes, a big and tragic fire indeed. Fortunately no one were killed or hurt, but ten apartments were totally destroyed. It happened several kilometers away from where I live, though (basically at the opposite end of my municipality), and I didn’t actually know about it until I watched a report on the news later in the day.
