…to quote the famous Cliff Richard song, sort of.

Anyone have anything special planned for Easter?

Me, I’m just staying here in Oslo. I love staying here during the Easter holiday, doing things I should have done ages ago, or just watching films, listening to music, drinking alcoholic beverages. So quiet. Most people have gone up to their cabins in the mountains.

Staying here as well, not doing things I should have done ages ago 😉

    Also smart. 😀

I am not doing anything special for Easter – despite it also being my 33rd wedding anniversary on Friday (coincidentally, Anne and I were married on the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday back in 1992. It saved us a small fortune in flowers for the church. We just used theirs!)

Where we live in North Wales, for us to go anywhere by car we need to use the A55, the main artery road in and out of North Wales – a popular holiday destination and the road is the main route to the ferry to Ireland. The end result it gets clogged with holiday traffic, and we always avoid the roads on Bank Holiday weekends.

But, we will probably have a walk locally if the weather’s agreeable.

I’ve seen your surroundings, Alan. They’re definitely “walkable”, with lovely scenery. Don’t need more.

Time to put my mood and energy into more positive things (per the “vent” thread) — going on holiday in a couple of hours. Spending some 10-11 days at my family’s summer house in Denmark, then another week at a small island outside the southern coast of Norway. Then some days in my hometown of Grimstad before returning back to Oslo.

I have no desire to leave the Nordic countries this time of year, as we have the best summers in the world. Especially now, with all the crazy temperatures that are prevalent down on the continent.

    What are your plans?

Thor, reach out when in Grimstad and we could perhaps meet up? I might borrow your “best summers in the world” angle as I’m currently thinking of a way to persuade my family in London to visit next year.

My own plans are simple and quiet, after already having returned from a lovely trip to Spain my wife took us on. Spending time with our children is certainly highest on the priority list (5 and 6 years old), and keeping bees also requires a certain amount of attention and maintenance (in a moment I’m off to check the weight of the honey boxes). Thirdly, I’m arranging film music for a recital in November (piano and flute), including Dr. Zhivago, a little suite from Sound of Music, and On The Waterfront. Perfect summer-work.

Sounds great, although Spain must have been excruciating, heat-wise?

I’ll give a holler if an opening presents itself in terms of the southern connection.

I’m starting my vacation this weekend. Five weeks – yay! 🙂
Nothing extravagant planned, I’ll be in Norway for the duration (although I had a nice trip to Gotland some weeks back).

I’ll stay home for the first few days. I live close to Oslo, but there are great hiking areas basically just outside my door, so I plan to take advantage of that. Then it’s off to the family cabin in Trysil (more hiking), before I head off north to Tromsø and some midnight sun, loaning the house of a friend for ten days (and even MORE hiking), before I finish off with a week in a rented cabin in the Jotunheimen mountain range (JEEZ! – what’s with all this hiking!!?)

Did I mention I plan to do some hiking this summer?

You and your hiking! I envy your energy and shape. I’m content if I manage a walk to the grocery store. But sounds great if you’re into that kind of stuff, enjoy!

It’s one of my favorite activities, for sure. But I AM considering doing something else for a change (not this year, though). For instance, there are several cities in Europe I’d like to visit that I haven’t been to yet (Rome, Barcelona, Paris..). But, as you say, summers in Norway are the best, as long as the weather is OK, and it’s not tempting to go to Southern Europe during summer with the temperatures there these days. I get uncomfortable if it creeps above 25C… Of course, having the option to take my vacation at any time of the year, I could go in March or October instead. Maybe next year. 🙂

Hope you’re having a good time in Denmark!
