Yes, but also some good ones now and then – like NAKED LUNCH and LEAVING LAS VEGAS. Appears he died in 2023, somehow that must have passed me by.

LOL, wow, somewhat funny… uncertain whether you want to pull our legs or actually you missed that? I mean, Julian Sands went missing while hiking, it was all over the news even in Germany. No one really knew what happened, though it was speculated that while he was an experienced mountaineer, he may have had an accident. Then, several months later, his remains were discovered in the area he where he was presumed to be, but couldn’t be found earlier. It was a hard to miss story, at least if you have at least some form of news connection. You mean you just found out that he died?
Julian Sands’ disappearance and eventual death was a news story spread out over several months and occasionally peaked in prime news media when there was something new (or presumably new) to report.

Now that you mention it, that whole news story comes back to me. It wasn’t extensively reported in Norwegian media, but there was definitely some. Weird how one’s brain eventually deletes certain pieces of information no longer deemed necessary.

I will forever be grateful for this Ryko release.

I’m sure our resident vinyl lovers, like Dr. Jacoby, squirm in their seat when they see that, such cozy listening surroundings “ruined” by having the album displayed on a computer screen rather than displaying the LP cover itself, proudly as it plays. 😉

At least it is a tablet which “feels” a little than holding a cover 😉

I don’t actually have the The Misfits Soundtrack LP, so I could not include it in the setup. I was also a spontaneous listening choice. 🙂

I originally saw this movie 30 years ago or so, I caught it by chance on TV and thought it was fascinating. As if Franz Kafka and M. Night Shyamalan had decided to collaborate on a film Noir. Gérard Depardieu stars as a once famous but now reclusive author, who gets picked up by the police after acting suspiciously disoriented. Roman Polanski plays the inspector who in a battle of wits tries to uncover what has happened. There is just one more question, one more “pure formality” that sets free the next layer, and the night at the police station becomes increasingly an interrogation.

I always loved Morricone’s score for this film (and it features prominently, the movie’s director, Giuseppe Tornatore, seems to make movies made for Morricone sensibilities), but never found it. It’s a “grail” I had almost forgotten. So glad it has now been re-released by Quartet Records.

A fun version of “We wish you a Merry Christmas” arranged in the style of John Williams:

Here is also a short making of (German only, maybe subtitle work in English, I only get German ones…):

A little mistake in the interview when co/main arranger mentions Williams would be a a brass player himself. Of course he is pianist.

But originally Williams played trombone for a longer time until his father convinced him to turn to the piano.

Oh, I indeed forgot about that. But since that was childhood isn’t he still primarily more a pianist that trombone player? Otherwise you could say I am a recorder player since forced by school for two year until I decided that isn’t something for me 😉

This was a one-off side project album for Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright, from 1984. It’s a lot of Fairlight synths, and it’s slightly acidic, slightly proggy pop. I like it. However, it was unavailable on CD for years, only a rare vinyl. I believe it was reissued some years ago on CD, which I have yet to pick up. Need to at some point, for my PF completist urges.

So Zimmer has scoreda German show again. A mini series called “Black Gold” which is although set in Northern Germany around 1900 apparently called a “western”. I think it will be show around Christmas/New Year.

There is a music video of the title song already:

Nice but not really “earth shattering” so far 😉
