Now I can’t even log in to FSM. Seems like I was logged out automatically recently, and when I tried to log in now, nothing happens. However, when I click “My Account”, I seem to be logged into someone ELSE’S account, a user named John Blankenship?!
I’ve alerted Lukas, no worries, but curious if anyone else has experienced this problem?

The new board is worse than useless. I can’t even post on it now (“Sorry, something is wrong with your data.”)

I don’t understand why they don’t take it offline while the issues are being sorted out. It’s been a week with issues now, hasn’t it?
Yeah, they really launched way too early. In Germany we call products like this “banana products” sarcastically because it only matures with the user 😉
Gee, the trouble does not stop it seems. Although you normally don’t really need a free virus/securitty scanner on a Mac I have one installed as a precaution (looking at Windows guys ;-)). I now even get a security warning about accessing the FSM site and its not any simple SSL certificate issue. I literally never saw this before anywhere else… Does anyone else get this, too?
Lukas posted on FB that he accidentally knocked the url out of place. The man with the screwdriver will come when he wakes up.

Ah, 2017. Not that long ago. I’m confident FSM is not in its “death throes”, as purported there. But definitely needs a few weeks to find itself.
Indeed. I just came from there after looking at my “Walking Distance” thread and every single YouTube embed does not work. Somebody had just posted their enjoyment of the Stromberg rerecording on a new thread and I wanted to direct them to that comparative study. Without the audio links it’s useless, along with the absence of paragraph breaks that makes text unreadable. Double whammy!
In answer to the topic question, the FSM website’s has been the one I’ve limited myself to, while moviemusic.com’s pretty much served as the go-to substitute when FSM’s went down for an extended period. And a fine substitute it proved to be. Trust me, I could have joined others but “real life” demanded balance with this peculiar hobby of ours. Similarly, I never joined any of the famous composer societies out there as I also wanted to celebrate all composers of really good film music. But still felt I could go toe-to-toe with any composer’s most devoted adherents when it came to serious discussions.
I’ve been trying to tune in to FSM now and then, but gosh, it’s challenging. Lots of members lost, the board is slow as hell, and most of the topics are about various nuts-and-bolts and shipping updates and what-have-you. I wish it well, but even if I weren’t afflicted with this tinnitus issue, I wouldn’t feel tempted to return. I hope Lukas & co. get to sort out the last issues.
I am peaking their regulary as usual. It got less active but besides some issues a lot members really over complained because not everything is exactly as it was for decades… That was to be expected. If we ever switch this forum to another plugin – the FMS formum is just another WP forum plugin than ours btw. – things also would change.
Adn that would be “just” a plugin within the same eco system WP. From the technical standpoint they are all lucky that the general content made it over from the stone age forum and site.
It’s bizarre to witness FSM at the moment. I lurk there now and then. It’s like ALL of my least favourite members over the years got together and took over the place. Meanwhile, all the guys I do like (a couple of whom are here) are completely buried in the mix.
There was Zooba’s incessant posting about various random thoughts that he’s posted about a thousand times before, and now it’s Chickenhearted making a return with a plethora of posts — ALL OF THEM WRITTEN BY A CHAT GPT-TYPE ROBOT (and nobody has even noticed!).
Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.
I peak every now and then and noticed the Zooba flood as well. Maybe he is too lazy to write all that himself 😉

Oh, Zooba definitely writes his own quirky stuff. It’s Chickenhearted (I believe he’s from Japan?) whose posts are so CLEARLY created by a bot (the exact same phrasing as you get when you chat with Google AI, for example). I mean, I guess he does it because he doesn’t speak English too well, but one should be upfront about it, I think. It’s weird that not a single person over there has picked up on it.

Ah, okay, didn’t notice the name but will pay atention to that. Getting help with translation is one thing (that always was AI already) but having texts written is something else… (in case no one notice my at times weird sentences are all written by myself ;-))
I still visit FSM every day but I don’t post much anymore.

Not exactly “un-noticed” — I sure picked up on it — but didn’t quite know what to make of it. Chickenhearted’s account is older than consumer A.I., and certainly before LLM could generate forum posts. I just don’t see the point of it. Which is why I’m wondering.
I mean, why have a bot write your forum posts? I want them to be me, my views, my opinions, my take on things (and I know A.I. loves to do these “three sequences”, I asure you, it’s me writing this).It’s Chickenhearted (I believe he’s from Japan?)
I have just peeked on FMS and noticed those posts as well now. Really obvious no one does reply to every post that lengthly (except Nic maybe ;-)). And of course how it picks up on parts of the posts commented, you rarely do when posting “manually”.
Yes, it’s crazy that no one has mentioned it, not even once (even though they may have noticed it, like Nick above). All those posts with an AI regurgitating “poetic” descriptions of every single title recommended or post given. Contextualizing everything with information it has found online. Absolutely bonkers. If I had still been active there, I would have been all over this.
Am I writing long posts? Sometimes, I guess, I get carried away, some posts just write themselves. I’m fairly efficient at a keyboard (though I’m writing this chilling on a beach with my phone), and I have always enjoyed writing (even writing semi-professionally at times years ago). But I suppose most of my forum posts aren’t that long these days. (Compared to rec.music.movies days… 🙂 )
