I just bought a new CD player, as my old one started acting somewhat weird.

Cost me around 445 Euro. I’m not willing to put more in for a player.

That looks pretty solid to me. Had a NAD amplifier as a teen, was very pleased with it.

3 or 4 years ago I saw a Yamaha DVD/CD/SACD player in a thrift shop for 20 Euro. I took a photo of it, googled it, and it turned out to be a flagship player that once was more than a 1000 Euro. I bought it and I never have been more happy with a CD player. Best 20 Euro I ever spend.

I even left the price tag on. And I see I need to dust the top.

This is not related to a real hifi setup, but…I’m looking for a Bluetooth speaker to have in my kitchen when I’m prepping and cooking dinner. I want the film scores to sound as good as they can on it (shared from my phone) and the small one I own doesn’t sound that good. Anybody have a recommendation of one that might produce good sound for soundtracks specifically?

We have a Sonos One gen 2 in the kitchen, which produces a fantastic sound for its size. Mrs TG is a former rock chick and after a gin and tonic or two is known to revisit her younger days via the miracle of Spotify.

The other night, after a visit from the family, she played Fleetwood Mac on it for an hour and it was as if they were in the room with us. It’s been much, much worse.

My parents also had Sonos in their house/apartment for a number of years, and were pleased with it.

Sadly, I have few wireless options in my own set-up, so can’t really recommend anything.

Thank you so much! I’ll look into the Sonos One also! I really appreciate the help. Since my current speakers are much further away from the kitchen, some more localized sound would be awesome.

I missed that thread Thor. What are the FSM threads? Are those carried over from the Film Score Monthly forum? Since I’m not on FSM, I guess I’ve skipped many of those. But if they are just like regular threads, I’ll take a look! 🙂 Thanks! I’ll go look at your question now, haha.

Yeah, they’re just ressurected FSM threads. I’ve retired from that place, but want to keep some of them alive (about 50, before I call it quits). They’re just like regular threads.

When I replaced my good old Technics System in 2017, it was an important key decision that I still could play CDs. I bought a Technics CD player in 1997, and for 20 years that was the most important source for music in my life; it must have had thousands of playing hours, and I eventually sold it (for small money) in 2018 to someone who wanted it in Italy.
But my new system had to be able to play CDs as well.
I’ve probably played less than a dozen CDs since 2017.

Here’s my stereo / home cinema setup:

The components are:

– Denon AVR-3311 receiver
– NAD C275BEE power amplifier
– Dali Mentor 6 speakers
I bought all these in 2010, and they’re still doing a great job.

– Marantz CD-63 Mk II KI Signature CD player, from 1996.
I’ve considered upgrading this, but I recently read a test where they compared it to a newer high-end player, and the difference wasn’t that great. The newer player “won”, but not by a lot. So I’m keeping the Marantz for now.

– Denon DP-29F turntable

For the home cinema:
– Panasonic DP-UB820 4K Blu-Ray player
– Philips 65OLED908 TV

I’ve also got an older Philips BDP9700 Blu-Ray player, which I’m keeping because it’s region free for DVDs, which the Panasonic isn’t (not that that’s something I need very often now).

And finally there’s a box from Norwegian internet/TV supplier Telia, as well as an Apple TV box, both of which I’m hardly using now, as I almost always use the apps in the TV when watching or streaming TV and movies.

I don’t have a dedicated component for streaming music. I prefer listening to CDs, and when I do stream music, I do it from Spotify on my phone via the TV, and on to the stereo. Yes, very primitive, I know. 🙂

Þhis looks really great and compact. I just wonder about the components in the little compartments if there is enough space for the ventilation slots. There I am always anxious to not leave enough space. But as it works fine since 16 years I guess, it’s fine. 🙂

Yes, I was a bit worried about that when I bought the rack, since those amplifier units give off a lot of heat. But the rack is fully open in the back, with plenty of room between it and the wall, and there’s 5-10 cm of air above the units, so it hasn’t been a problem.
