Celluloid Tunes # 44: Music from Documentaries (14th International Edition)

The 3-hour long, epic documentary Human (2015) is currently in Norwegian theatres, featuring a gorgeous score by Armand Amar. This gives us ample opportunity to do what we’ve been wanting to do for a long time: Delve into the expansive world of documentary scores – both classic and personal favourites of a more recent date. For a genre that subscribes to reality and authenticity, it often uses music as a crucial element to tell us something about how it is to be human in this world. It’s a dangerous rhetorical tool, but when used right, it’s spellbinding. These are some examples.
