GerateWohlDeltakerThere were both a single CD album and a double CD album for Empire?
Yesterday CelluloseTunes refused to publish my response to this.
Probably because it contained links to dicogs.

GerateWohlDeltakerYes. This was the single disc one with 10 tracks:
https://www.discogs.com/it/release/11895346-John-Williams-4-The-London-Symphony-Orchestra-The-Empire-Strikes-BackAnd as far as I remember this one was originally available on double CD with all 17 tracks:
https://www.discogs.com/release/1306165-John-Williams-4London-Symphony-Orchestra-Star-Wars-The-Empire-Strikes-BackHe probably has if listening to the expansions.
I already counted that in. Thor’s collection with all the OSTs and concert works plays for about a week. If you add the unpublished TV works plus the expansion I guess, it will be something below a Month.

Thanks for the heads-up! Restored.

Could be. Maybe I mix it up with the double CD for Star Wars.

Malte MüllerNøkkelmesterQuickly looked at soundtrackcollector and I think most parts of it debuted on the 4 CD box already with some tracks on the 4th extra disc. Some track titles are not there like “The Heroics of Luke and Han” or “Rebels At Bay”. Not enough expert on this where these might be hidden if at all.

Nick ZwarDeltakerMaybe worth mentioning is the soundtrack that I bought the most often.
The soundtrack (and even the recording, regardless of any genre) I bought most often is SUPERMAN – THE MOVIE. I do have the original WB Double LP, then the Warner CD of that (minus two tracks, which at that time had to be dropped to accommodate a single disc CD release), then the Rhino 2CD release, then the FSM “Blue Box”, and then, last but not least, the La-La Land 40th Anniversary 3CD release.
Plus I also have the John Debney recording with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (though that’s a different recording, that’s more like in classical music, when you have several “Eroicas”).

GerateWohlDeltakerSuperman I just got four times.
I skipped the Warner CD and the Blue Box. Just had LP, Debney, Rhino and LLL.11. August 2025 klokken 14:01 #5419
Thor Joachim HagaNøkkelmesterRarely happens with me. I tend to stick with the first version that I’m pleased with, forever and ever. But it HAS happened over the years (most of the time, the new title eventually disappears out of my collection), although I can’t think of an instance where I’ve bought the same title more than twice.

GerateWohlDeltakerThat’s because you are so young. So, you didn’t already have an LP collection before you started buying CDs.

Thor Joachim HagaNøkkelmesterHe, he…that’s nice to hear as a 47-year-old! To be fair, I had a few LPs, mostly things I had inherited from my dad (maybe a handful of my own), but zero soundtrack LP collection prior to cassettes (and then CDs).

If I count more than two times as that happened more often with some expansions by Williams or Goldsmith scores primarily it is probably these:
- Rozsa’s Ben-Hur: First the 2 CD Sony release and then the longborad 2CD from Rhino. I then sold the Sony because I thought I now have the “original”. Regret it a bit because that two albums were of course different re-recordings. Then the Tadlow re-recording.
- Jaws: Had the original album for ages, then bought the 20th anniversary one and then the first new Intrada edition because of the really significant better sound. No plans to buy the latest “even better sounding” edition.
- Star Wars: I think I first had a Philips sampler by Williams with excerpts also of other of his scores. Then original albums and then the 4CD box. Then I do have the first DoCD releases of each digitally. But if I really want to listen to it I use the 4CD box

Nick ZwarDeltakerI’ve bought a number of recordings more than once, a few more than twice, depending on how important a score is to me and whether I consider the new release offers a (substantial) upgrade over the previous one. Sometimes the upgrade was really worth it, sometimes it wasn’t. 🙂 But SUPERMAN is the title I bought the most.
One film score I love where I was always dissatisfied with the previous releases was Jerry Goldsmith’s PAPILLON. The Silva Screen release lacked substantial moments of the score didn’t sound too well, the Universal France added the missing music, but still didn’t sound good (though differently bad than the Silva Screen), and the Quartet… voila, everything fell into place, full program, great sound.

Yes, the anthology presentation is quite close to the LP OST.

Malte MüllerNøkkelmesterOn Superman I like it a lot and I have the old CD as japanese version forever (wasn’t that having one or two extras tracks at that time?). I also have the Rhino one digitally. Somehow I am content with that.

I like that score a lot and have that Silva Screen one forever. Bnever had any problems with it. I listened to the samples of the newer editions but somehow it never urged me to “upgrade”. For example with the Tsunami SAND PEBBLES I felt that urge to buy the Intradas (skipped the Varese one) 😉
