DeltakerFor Ed Wood I think I am fine with the suite on the recent Paris concert album.
Anyway, in recent times I have come more and more to appreciate good soundtrack suites.
Sometimes I prefer them even over the OSTs. So, when I like to listen to a particular score I rather put on the suite than the whole album. For example, currently when I like to listen to Franz Waxman I put on one of his four Legendary Hollywood albums.

DeltakerOn Amazon I found a CD album of his score for “Silas” and the animated series “Sindbad”. But Jack Holborn seems not to be available anymore.

DeltakerHi Thor,
This is a subject, that you probably know much more than I do. You already mentioned some highlights.
But when talking about german soundtracks of course Martin Böttcher must be mentioned, who was famous in the 70s for his crime TV Show scores and his music for the Western german Karl May movies. Like this:And it’s important to mention probably my personal favourite german soundtrack: Christian Bruhn’s soundtrack for the german dub version of the anime series Captain Future from the 80s.
I remember Bruhn for this and the title song of the animated Wickie series. But there he wrote just the title song. The rest of the score was by Karel Svoboda who scored a lot TV stuff for german TV in the 70s and 80s, especially for children. But he is Czech as you know, not German.
But the Captain Future soundtrack is brillant.GerateWohl
DeltakerYou mean Spotify playlist? Good idea.

DeltakerSame. Great main theme. And pretty good western pastiche tracks.
The OST of the first has over 30 tracks, most of them under one minute long. A little repetetive, like most Silvestri scores. But for me probably top 5 Silvestri. At least top 10.GerateWohl
DeltakerSilvestri often has great main themes and often nice single big band tracks like in Back to the Future, Mouse Hunt, Death Becomes Her or Allied.
I thing Silvestri is a little lazy when it comes to development and variations of his themes. Mabe a reason why he, unlike Elfman and Newton Howard, went for concerto composition. Or did he?
My favourite Silvestri score albums are Endgame and Contact.
Apart from that I find listening to a complete Silvestri soundtrack album a little tiring. But many of his tracks I would easily put on a best film music ever sampler.

DeltakerTalking about 30 minutes Varese albums. I have the 30 minutes LA Confidential since almost 30 years and always wished for an expansion. Then the expansion came out recently. And after listening to C&C program I found that the 30 minutes album is fine and I rather listen to that one.

DeltakerOff topic. But if you like Grönemeyer, then I strongly recommend his unplugged album. Great performances of his greatest songs. One of those passionate live albums that make the studio recordings appear sterile afterwards.

DeltakerI have one more: Klaus Badelt’s Equilibrium

DeltakerGold’s Exodus is about the foundation of the state of Israel as far as I know. As this was founded as a democracy it rather doesn’t qualify. I also haven’t seen it. But Ridley Scott’s Exodus might be better (who wrote the score?). Just like Bernstein’s Ten Commandments.
But in the end Thor must define what he means with oppressive regimes. Does slavery count in? Then we could mention Zimmer’s 12 Years A Slave or North’s Spartacus.
Do we count in prison movies? Sleepers? Murder in the First? Alkatraz? Etc. I already mentioned Pappillon above.
But then, what about Oliver Twist? Or any movie about partiarchial structures? Scenes of a Marriage?

DeltakerMy list would probably be a mishmash of the lists above.
Korngold’s Robin Hood
Thief of Bagdad
Waxman’s Rebecca is fine, but I would have prefered his Sunset Boulevard, even though that was 1950.
Steiner’s Treasure of Sierra Madre should be there.
And William Alwyn’s Odd Man Out even though that is British and not Hollywood. But I think, some of the scores mentioned above aren’t Hollywood either.
From Herrmann I would probably rather chose Citizen Kane or Jane Eyre.GerateWohl
DeltakerAnd Williams’ Schindler’s List of course.
GerateWohl
DeltakerJohn Williams is the only film composer where I am particularly interested in C&C expansions. And even there I sometimes prefer the OST because these C&C programs can become a little tiring. And as I have a job and a family life I don’t have enough time to work myself relaxed through all these C&C programs.
But if I take the time C&C programs can be an adventure on its own. When the score is rich enough.

DeltakerEurythmics 1984
JNH’s Hunger Games maybe?
Darin Marianelli’s V like Vendetta
Don Davis’ The Matrix (maybe also too far out there)
Jerry Goldsmith’s Papillon
Michael Kamen’s Brazil
Gabriel Yared’s Das Leben der Anderen.
And I don’t remember who wrote the score to the TV adaptation of Handmaid’s Tale. I neither liked the show nor the score, but it worked quite well in context.
