DeltakerI am currently trying to review my selections for my (look away now Thor) 2024 “awards”. 😉

DeltakerMalte, I agree that there is an expectation to receive a benefit. Incentives certainly attract donations, perhaps more money from people who want a particular perk.
With me saying that it’s the donation that truly matters, this viewpoint of mine would be severely tested if a project that I am very passionate about and would donate thousands (I can dream!) but the perk for thousands of dollars/euros/pounds came with an invite to recording sessions in the US that I couldn’t possibly attend!

DeltakerI couldn’t understand the problem with the Nosferatu release. People would get their copy when it was sent out. Who cares if it’s after the people who bought it via general sale.
The whole point of supporting it was to ensure its release and not to get a copy before anyone else!

DeltakerIt is interesting to see how Kickstarter campaigns have developed in the intervening years since this topic started.
I think the debacle of the Jerry Goldsmith books and its Kickstarter campaign has severely dented confidence. But, I think that they are a good way of helping projects along to fruition. (I am a contributor to the Goldsmith books thing but it hasn’t put me off Kickstarter.)
A lot of people want something in return when the contribute money to a Kickstarter rather than providing funds to help a project get off the ground. For me, there’s a couple of Kickstarter projects I supported but, in the end, didn’t really enjoy the end results. But I am still glad that I contributed to it so that the project happened. I didn’t demand my money back.

DeltakerHi Thor,
Interested to see how this forum develops, and would be particularly interested to hear about Norwegian and other Scandinavian film music-related news.
I’m a Scotsman who used to work in England and lives in Wales. But then you knew this already.
I’ve been listening to film music ‘seriously’ since I first heard John Williams’ STAR WARS back in 1977. But, looking back on it now, my enjoyment of the genre started even before this – I had a keen interest in TV themes and that interest would sometimes be higher for the theme than for the show itself. I’m a big fan of music giants such as Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Elliot Goldenthal and Howard Shore, but my tastes are quite broad.
I try and keep my own film music review blog ‘ticking over’ with reviews and awards news – https://reelmusic.wordpress.com – and, in this blog I try and highlight some of the lesser-known scores from smaller films.
Looking forward to seeing how this forum develops over the coming weeks and months.
