But is it more expensive with the new tarrifs, or have they been like that for a couple of years?

The terms are used interchangeably (and I’m guilty of that sometimes too, like in my first post here), but Sigbjørn is right, they have different meanings. Atonal is mostly associated with the new Viennese school, I think – 12-tone, Schönberg, Berg, Webern, that kind of stuff. While dissonant is a more general term for discordant phrasings. So you can have dissonant scores that are not atonal, for example.

Oh yes, definitely interesting. And RATIONAL value can be just as valid as an IRRATIONAL one when it comes to musical enjoyment. I’m often fascinated by complex, avantgardistic music — a desire to analyze them, deconstruct them, finding patterns within the complexities. I saw Stockhausen’s “Sternklang” performed in a park during the Oslo-based music festival Ultima a few years ago, and it was mesmerizing. But give me a broad melody, and I’m swept off my feet. Sometimes, there are scores that can do both at the same time — Goldsmith’s ALIEN, for example. But if I were to choose, I’d take the latter type of music any day of the week.

I don’t think it has anything to do with being inside or outside the EU (many non-EU countries in Europe are part of the EEA), at least that can’t be the primary reason. So it would be great to know why Norway is suddenly on several stores’ “black lists” (like DeepDiscounts or CDWOW). The Record Hub, based in Ireland, says we’re omitted because of some “restrictions”, but I have no idea what they are, and I haven’t found any info online.

Been browsing some online stores today, and realized there’s a FIFTH threat on the rise — many stores don’t even ship to Norway in the first place! Some speak about “restrictions”, but I don’t know what they are. It’s like we’re some third world country. Denmark and Sweden, for example, are absolutely fine.

So if the nail in the coffin wasn’t all the way in, it definitely is so now.

I was against EU 30+ years ago, but I’m very much pro Norway getting into the union now. Not only for issues like these (us being part of EEA simply doesn’t help), but for security reasons as well, in this unstable time of ours.

My question was more — since you already owned most of the music on the set, was it only purchased to display on the shelf or the mantle piece or whatever, an “item”? But lookin’ good, that collection. You have Tokyo and Across the Stars – Deluxe Edition. Both on my want list.

More appropriate here than in the “Now Playing” thread. This is interesting on many levels. A 2021 documentary on women in electronic music, with a beautiful, original electronic score by a female composer (of course!). Wasn’t familiar with Kate Simko before. Obviously not on the level of the existing music played in the film, but it can hold its own.

Yes, the 2021(?) concert was wonderful, as was having a couple of beers with you afterwards. It’s great that we can cross of live Williams on the list. But I truly feel for those who hadn’t seen him before, and who probably won’t now after his cancellation.

I, too, love MANDY. It’s rather unique in Jóhannsson’s oeuvre. “Forging the Beast” is a wonderful track!

Nicklas Schimdt is an interesting pick, I know him a little bit.

I love the DUNE scores, and yes — the second is far superior. But I can understand it dividing the waters. In either case, it’s very much a score I can “fathom” — all the weird sonorities Zimmer created for an alien world make sense, in my ears.

Yes, as I said over on FSM, I quite liked the film, but don’t remember much of the music. I think I even sampled it when it came out. But your recommendation makes me want to have another go.

HANA-BI is the odd one out there. But fine score.
