Morricone is really often a “best of” composer to me. As much as I love his scores lots of his scores do have the same 2-3 themes in minor variations. Not to speak of very direct style revisits.

Thanks for the further explainations. I am so totally not immun to this but just have to get a bit more picky than I actually want to 😉 ROSEWOOD sound like something I should put on my list again. I like when Williams is more darker or even more dissonant than usually. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS is also a favorite of mine of his because of this because he rarely wrote that way.

I agree on CLOSE ENCOUNTERS and ET, although only have the older expansions of these and not the Lalaland ones. The complete JAWS I do have and it is also great because of the much better sound.

I like the ROSEWOOD original album and ahve the expansion not as a priority, probably because the few samples Lalaland always posts didn’t convince me it is that different… Well, and its for budgetary reasons, too. I just can’t “re-buy” scores I already have in some form… (I would if I could though ;-))

Always great to see that I am not the only one still loving those classic LucasArts soundtracks 😉

    Collection size:
My digital collection consists of 7900+ albums and 860 GB data. Of course backuped frequently. The majority MP3 or AAC for legacy reasons or priority. Otherwise I prefer lossless (ALAC being Mac user). Although I admit I neither have the ears nor the equipment to hear a difference to good encoded 320kbps MP3/AAC.

The majority is – surprise – soundtracks from all ages. Although I tend to like older stuff most but have no general reservation against current scores or specific music styles. There is also pop/rock/electronic/jazz/classical and audio plays included.

My physical collection is perhaps around 1000+ CDs and a few LPs (not counted…). Except LPs and CD-Rs not all are ripped yet but that’s on the list to do occasionally.

    Acquisition habits:
I still do buy CDs of release that have some priority to me and if they are not available for download. I prefer downloads lossless from Qobuz if the price is reasonable. We also have a quite good public library that has a soundtrack section that even has/had some FSM and such… Although physical media sections got thinner there as well last time I visited.

    Listening habits:
I still listen a lot via traditional CD player but also via Mac which is connected to the stereo system.

I don’t have subscribed to any of the big streaming services. Our public library annual fee however includes access to a basic streaming service. It has quite some scores but of course has a rather limited catalogue for specialities. The library also includes access to the complete Naxos catalogue online but I have not used that so far.
I also use Youtube to sample things a lot.

As many of us I have lots of stuff I didn’t even or didn’t properly listen to yet.. I probably could also just be cut of new releases without much problems 😉

I somehow never realized that the IN THE NAME OF THE ROSE score was synth before I heard the album years later… I only saw the movie on TV so probably the sound helped 😉

LADYHAWKE is a great fun score which I really like – you know I like Alans Parsons Project – but it is putting me off in the movie, too. Perhaps especially because those synths+drums primarily appear in action scenes and stand that much out. I think that would have really worked without the sythns and drums already.

I also got to knew Morricone via his the italo westerns which I love and primarily the lyrical side first: My father loved both music and the movie ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST. That was one of my first soundtrack CDs in the later 80s.

Later I got exposed to a weird re-labeld single named GOLDRAUSCH/TERRA MAGICA (https://www.discogs.com/de/release/3973769-Ennio-Morricone-Terra-Magica-Goldrausch) which was sold and playeed at the visitor center of a limestone cave my parents and I visited (Harz over here I think it was). I only learned some years later that those tracks are actually “Chi Mai” and “Come Maddalena”. Still have that original single.

Later I got this double LP https://www.discogs.com/de/master/48106-Ennio-Morricone-Film-Music-1966-1987 and this best of CD https://www.discogs.com/de/master/238893-Ennio-Morricone-The-Best-Of-Ennio-Morricone.

Now I have some more CDs of him and probably 150+ digital albums now. I do like all of his styles even the dissonant one although I have to be in the mood for that as it is really challenging at times. Even more than anything dissonant Goldsmith.
One of my many favorites is also more lyrical: NUOVO CINEMA PARADISO.

The son of Peter Thomas is re-releasing a lot of his stuff. But not as CDs. Only occasionally as LP or digital. Changed times. And I guess German film music is a niche within the niche…

(like the music for the first Monkey Island games… I guess “high-res” makes not sense for that music anyway. 🙂 ).

A real game score gourmet. I grew up with the Amiga versions. In case you didn’t know they updated the games as Special editions a few years ago and also updated the original scores.

I’ll try to write up something as well the next days but a lot is probably quite similar.

Ah, I see, you probably mean the display on mobile. (I never use this on the mobile as I hate typing there ;-). As a admin I have a few more links there but I see if I can do this via theme styling perhaps.

Thanks for the explanation. What about inserting a space or vertical line between the time and “EDIT”/”REPLY” in the header of each post? 🙂

Not sure I understand that… The reply link is at least on desktop on the right and the time is on the left. Besides that I cannot simply edit such small details as they come like that from the forum plugin.

I think the scores would be less bland if they hired someone capable of composing in the SW idiom.

I fear if they wanted that they would have done it…

Spotted this question on another topic:

When I select “reply” on a post, isn’t that post supposed to get quoted in my own post?

It’s not possible to auto-quote things (and such an automatism can “pollute” replies a little as well). The reason for this “reply” link is that theoretically comments in WP do support hierachical or nested views. This is rather uncommon on forums and makes everything a little hard to read so it is disabled…

I am sure that there weren’t many who thought that Howard Shore was a bizarre choice for Lord of the Rings (and, perhaps, hadn’t heard Looking For Richard but couldn’t see how that style would have been a good fit for Middle Earth).

While I did knew Richard III I was indeed surprised about the choice back then. Not sure who I expected but certainly more someone like James Horner. WHile I liked Shore’s score I originally found it a bit too traditional and would have loved more “roughness” it originally.

With taking over Start Wars the question is, do we need someone to mimic the style of Williams exactly actually? Mandalorian did part a lot and I found interessting.

We surely have people like McNeely (SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE is great), Debney who can mimic “anyone” and Kiner can do Williams more or less as well. Maybe give Gordy Haab a movie finally… Or Conrad Pope or William Ross. Ross’ adaption on OBI-WAN KENOBI were more convincing that Nathalia Holt’s parts but that’s maybe a bit unfair as there was no collaboratin… Or what about John Powell. As unnecessary SOLO was the score was entertaining.

I have not seen the new shows expect some free epsiode or excpert here and there but partly listened some score so far. Most were bland/servicable but they have big shoes to fill…

Let me first explain that we choose bbpress being a plugin to WordPress to keep maintenance low. The alternative would have been a standalone more sophisticated forum software which would require its own updates and such. We probably more sophisticated than the FMS forum but certainly less than the jwfan forums some of youre may be “spoilered” by (which is using a commercial software which here is naturally out of question).

THe bbpress plugin does not have an awful lot of functions. There a plugins to this plugin to extend functionality but while the forum is maintained its not that actively maintained and lots of those plugins seem to be not. So I probably frequently will not be able to fullfill request (and while I theoretically code things myself that causes some overhead).

On my desktop browser the forum seems to load the Norwegian version and I must use Google Translate to switch to English.

There is a language selector on your user account you have to set as your language explitly. Its set to the default language by default which unsurprisingly is Norwegian 🙂

And, I am asked to log in to the forum but it fails to log in. I think because my own WordPress log in details for my blog are filled into the log in boxes.

The form at the bottton indeed misses the captcha. Sadly the plugin taking over the main login form does not cover the form of the forum, it literally is not compatible as the forum does it’s own thing… I have to look if I can remove that one…

And, I am asked to log in to the forum but it fails to log in. I think because my own WordPress log in details for my blog are filled into the log in boxes.

You own WP login surely does not have to do with that. Its just the above issue.

Thor, any chance of a “like” function for posts?

I have to look if there is a working plugin for this. Otherwise………
