NøkkelmesterAh, I heard of Medimops but never used it. Guess I should try that, too. Our public library here has a bargain store as well were you can buy things they don’t want to add to their archive or sorted out. Often not the best condition and lacking booklets (they put all CDs in plastic envelopes) but can still be used/ripped.

NøkkelmesterIt was not meant as a source for your list, just as a general info to the topic in general as I just noticed that. bandcamp is primarily downloads but if Varese choose so they could also sell CDs or other “merch”.

NøkkelmesterThere has been some work under the hood of the site theme. If anyone encounters weird or broken layout your browser caches need to be cleared manually. Browser caches are really persistent these days and often serve outdate files for longer than they should.

NøkkelmesterI looked into adding a like button to replies but sadly I have not found any suitable plugin for this. Either ugly, too limited and requiring buying a pro version or totally outdated… Sorry.
Malte Müller
NøkkelmesterWhat about inserting a space or vertical line between the time and “EDIT”/”REPLY” in the header of each post? 🙂
I could not do that as we admins have several links more so it gets a new line below thte post date now. Since the reply link was confusing I have hidden it now.
The login form at the bottom that was not working due to plugin conflicts with captcha has been removed now.

NøkkelmesterMalte, your habits sound more or less similar to mine, although your collection dwarfs mine. Almost 8000 albums? Enough for three lifetimes.
Yeah, a lot and surely too much… and not all music as mentioned. Probably also some orphaned entries as Apple Music/iTutnes makes it unnecessarily hard to find/cleanup these. And probably I should remove a few things I haven’t managed to listen to or will never again… But since digital space is cheap…
Malte Müller
NøkkelmesterBy the way, these are the CDs I’m looking for:
Sorry, have serveral digitally but none on CD…
Btw, Varese just opened up a bandcamp page: https://varesesarabande.bandcamp.com/
Seems even a bit cheaper than on other onlien vendors where Vareses albums are quite expensive. Even if VAT taxes add up on checkout.
Malte Müller
NøkkelmesterI had to keep that to myself back then, LOL!
Probably lots of us not having the hip music taste had similar experience 😉 Btw, I hated hiphop decades ago but warmed up to certain styles of it meanwhile.
LOCAL HERO works great although a bit “formless” as an album. Great theme. Besides old westerns and such a favorite movie I saw several times with my father.

NøkkelmesterThat’s an interesting reversal of premise. I really can’t think of anything I liked that I now dislike either.
Me neither although there are scores like Star Wars I listend to that often that I am sometimes a bit tired of them. If you know what I mean…
Malte Müller
NøkkelmesterMorricone is really often a “best of” composer to me. As much as I love his scores lots of his scores do have the same 2-3 themes in minor variations. Not to speak of very direct style revisits.

NøkkelmesterThanks for the further explainations. I am so totally not immun to this but just have to get a bit more picky than I actually want to 😉 ROSEWOOD sound like something I should put on my list again. I like when Williams is more darker or even more dissonant than usually. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS is also a favorite of mine of his because of this because he rarely wrote that way.
Malte Müller
NøkkelmesterI agree on CLOSE ENCOUNTERS and ET, although only have the older expansions of these and not the Lalaland ones. The complete JAWS I do have and it is also great because of the much better sound.
I like the ROSEWOOD original album and ahve the expansion not as a priority, probably because the few samples Lalaland always posts didn’t convince me it is that different… Well, and its for budgetary reasons, too. I just can’t “re-buy” scores I already have in some form… (I would if I could though ;-))

NøkkelmesterAlways great to see that I am not the only one still loving those classic LucasArts soundtracks 😉

NøkkelmesterCollection size:
My digital collection consists of 7900+ albums and 860 GB data. Of course backuped frequently. The majority MP3 or AAC for legacy reasons or priority. Otherwise I prefer lossless (ALAC being Mac user). Although I admit I neither have the ears nor the equipment to hear a difference to good encoded 320kbps MP3/AAC.The majority is – surprise – soundtracks from all ages. Although I tend to like older stuff most but have no general reservation against current scores or specific music styles. There is also pop/rock/electronic/jazz/classical and audio plays included.
My physical collection is perhaps around 1000+ CDs and a few LPs (not counted…). Except LPs and CD-Rs not all are ripped yet but that’s on the list to do occasionally.
Acquisition habits:
I still do buy CDs of release that have some priority to me and if they are not available for download. I prefer downloads lossless from Qobuz if the price is reasonable. We also have a quite good public library that has a soundtrack section that even has/had some FSM and such… Although physical media sections got thinner there as well last time I visited.Listening habits:
I still listen a lot via traditional CD player but also via Mac which is connected to the stereo system.I don’t have subscribed to any of the big streaming services. Our public library annual fee however includes access to a basic streaming service. It has quite some scores but of course has a rather limited catalogue for specialities. The library also includes access to the complete Naxos catalogue online but I have not used that so far.
I also use Youtube to sample things a lot.As many of us I have lots of stuff I didn’t even or didn’t properly listen to yet.. I probably could also just be cut of new releases without much problems 😉
Malte Müller
NøkkelmesterI somehow never realized that the IN THE NAME OF THE ROSE score was synth before I heard the album years later… I only saw the movie on TV so probably the sound helped 😉
LADYHAWKE is a great fun score which I really like – you know I like Alans Parsons Project – but it is putting me off in the movie, too. Perhaps especially because those synths+drums primarily appear in action scenes and stand that much out. I think that would have really worked without the sythns and drums already.
